Green building is a method of constructing or renovating a building in the most environmentally friendly way possible, integrating and optimising the use of natural materials with building techniques that can reduce the energy impact, resulting in a low-consumption house that is healthy to live in.
Green building refers to living and building in a "healthy" way, in order to safeguard and protect the environment. To achieve this, green architecture makes use of renewable resources, innovative techniques and natural materials that do not harm the environment when designing and constructing a building.

Green building renovation involves:
- Design that takes into account the characteristics of the building's location in order to minimise the use of external energy sources during the lifecycle of the house;
- Construction of a high-performance shell (wall and floor insulation), again with a view to minimising the use of external energy sources;
- Use of natural materials, where possible produced in the vicinity of the property, to minimise pollution arising from production and transport (natural lime plaster, paints containing natural, breathable and siloxane-based products or wood derivatives);
- Use of low-energy-consumption systems, integrated and designed to fit the size of the property perfectly, using so-called renewable energy sources, for instance by installing photovoltaic and solar thermal systems.
- Developing a plan for the lifecycle of the property as a whole, including its demolition and disposal.
These are the five fundamental principles of green building.
Applying these principles not only makes it possible to reduce the environmental footprint of the building, but also to guarantee improved wellbeing for those living there. These principles can be applied when renovating houses and apartments.

Wooden houses are a trend that continues to grow. And it's easy to see why: wooden houses are environmentally friendly, efficient, secure, perfectly suited to seismic zones – an important consideration in Italy, which is essentially surrounded by such zones – and satisfy the principles of green building.
Wooden houses guarantee high performance and comfort, while also being energy efficient. These benefits are coupled with their extremely low environmental impact. And so, the green living lifestyle continues to gain followers, every day, all over the world.
